Before You Start

  • Ensure you have ETH deposited in your MetaMask wallet
  • Keep extra ETH on Ethereum Mainnet for gas and future bridge fees
  • MetaMask defaults to Ethereum Mainnet - verify your network

Bridge Your ETH to Base

Follow these simple steps to bridge your ETH from Ethereum Mainnet to Base network using MetaMask.

Requirements

MetaMask wallet (app or browser extension) with ETH balance on Ethereum Mainnet

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open MetaMask

Launch your MetaMask app or browser extension with ETH deposited.

Network Check

MetaMask connects to Ethereum Mainnet by default. Verify you’re on the correct network.

2. Verify Ethereum Mainnet

Select Ethereum Mainnet in the network dropdown (upper left corner) if not already selected.

3. Access Bridge Feature

Click the “Bridge” option to swap ETH from Ethereum Mainnet to Base network.

4. Configure Your Bridge

ETH (Ethereum Mainnet)

Bridge To

ETH (Base Network)

Select Base in the “Bridge to” option and select ETH token on the Base Mainnet.

5. Enter Bridge Amount

Input the amount of ETH you want to bridge to Base network.

Important: Always keep enough ETH on Ethereum Mainnet for:

  • Current gas and bridge fees
  • Future bridging transactions
  • Emergency operations

6. Review Fees

Carefully check the gas and bridge fees before proceeding. Ensure you have sufficient ETH remaining.

7. Submit and Approve

  1. Click “Submit” to initiate the bridge
  2. Approve the transaction in MetaMask
  3. Wait for the transfer to complete

Processing Time

Bridge typically completes in 1-5 minutes. Track progress in MetaMask Activity tab.

8. Switch to Base Network

After bridging completes, add and switch to Base Mainnet:

  • Click the network dropdown (upper left corner)
  • Add Base Mainnet if not already added
  • Switch to Base Mainnet

9. View Your ETH on Base

Your bridged ETH is now visible and ready for:

  • Trading on Base DEXs
  • Swapping for tokens on Base network
  • Interacting with Base dApps
